Couple of the month: Colin & Martina

In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!

Dance style: Rumba
Amount of Lessons:  17 H
Song:  In My Life – The Beatles

1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?

We love The Beatles and wanted to play one of their songs that had some tempo but wasn’t too fast, since neither of us are experienced dancers. We also wanted a song that people in all generations would recognize and enjoy.

2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?

We wanted a dance that had some slightly more complex moves, but nothing so difficult that we would never be able to get it right every time. We felt the dance that was choreographed for us had a great mix of some easier steps and some things that added a bit of flair to the dance!

3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?

We started about 5 months before our wedding. We had minimal experience before starting (a few classes from elementary school many years ago).

4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge was finding time every week to practice.

5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?

Yes! We felt very comfortable and well prepared!

6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!

There is so much energy from the crowd that makes it all that much more special. We didn’t actually feel nervous in the moment since we were around everyone we love and they were excited for us.

7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?

Sad it was over but also a bit relieved!

8. What advice can you give to the couples?

Everything will go by so quickly the day of and before you know it you will be on the dance floor. Take a second together to soak it all and think about how special it is that all your friends and family have come just to see you! And it also doesn’t hurt to practice once day of – we did that with just us and our photographer and got some great pictures as well!

9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂

Yes we hope to dance more moving forward!
