Couple of the month: Stanzi & Joe

In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!

Dance style:  Mix styles
Amount of Lessons:  8,5 H
Song: “This Will Be” by Natalie Cole

1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?

We chose a song that was special to us (we’d listened to it at the beginning of our relationship), but also one that helped us to bring to life what we wanted the dance to feel like, which for us was joyous and fun.

2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?

– That we enjoy the practice and experience.

3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?

We started just under two months before. We didn’t have dance experience. Two months is fairly short, so we practiced a lot between our lessons.

We had no formal dance experience. Seton was a figure skater growing up, so some of the concepts felt familiar, but everything was brand new for Pat.

4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?

Not many challenges.

5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?

We had SO MUCH FUN. For Joe, it was one of the highlights of the wedding. It felt like a chance to physically express the joy we were feeling.

6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!

If you practice often, it’ll fall into your procedural memory and you’ll be able to have much more fun. Highly recommend. Also, remembering that this isn’t a professional dance competition and even if you look terrible but are able to do it with a laugh, your audience will have a good time.

7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?

We felt great, so alive.

8. What advice can you give to the couples?

Practice daily if you can. Have fun work it!

9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂

We loved it. We felt like each time we danced or practiced, it shifted our mood or intimacy. We’d like to continue.
