Couple of the month: Kara & Carlos

In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!

Dance style: Rumba and Hustle
Song:  ‘Everywhere’ by Fleetwood Mac
Amount of Lessons: 5 private lessons + wedding cycle group classes

1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?

From our 5 years together, we have always loved Fleetwood Mac and would have it on in the background as our go-to. The song, Everywhere, just made sense for us!

2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?

The most important requirement for our dance was to have fun with it! We enjoyed classes and although we worked hard at it, we never took it too seriously which made it even more enjoyable! We also got to pick and choose parts we liked and loved our teacher for preparing us for the big day.

3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?

Did you have dance experience before? We started a couple months in advance. I had dance experience (danced for 18 years of life growing up) and my now husband had some (his parents frequently do salsa dancing and he took some classes but explains he’s learning as we all are!)

4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge was making sure we were prepared for dancing with the wedding dress without tripping. We practiced by covering the dress up which set us up for success on our wedding day.

5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?

Yes! We felt like we absolutely crushed it. Brooklyn Dance Lessons did all the work in helping us feel successful and comfortable on the day of. It was so much fun!

6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!

For future couples, we would say if one person is a little worried about it more than the other, take the lead of the person who’s worried. If they need more practice, then practice! It’s important for both people to feel comfortable and confident.

7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?

We felt amazing! Our wedding day was absolutely perfect.

8. What advice can you give to the couples?

On the day of the wedding, you’ve done all you can to prepare – now have fun with it. Enjoy the moment of your work coming to life on the dance floor!

9. Are you going to dance after the wedding?

Yes, my husband reminds me all the time we need to sign up for more classes! I’d love to as well.
