Couple of the month: Jason and Emma

In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!

Dance style: Rumba
Song: Next to You – John Vincent III
Amount of Lessons: 5

1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?

Just after we got engaged, we played a few songs in the car while we were on a long drive. We had slight difference of opinion at that time but our top picks were thankfully in the same genre. A few weeks later, when we heard them all again, Jason came around to Emma’s top pick and we both knew it had to be the one we ultimately landed on.

2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?

That it felt natural and fun.

3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?

We began our lessons about 2 months in advance of our wedding. Neither of us had any prior dance experience.

4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?

Finding time to commit to each session fully. We planned each one in advance and made sure they were blocked off in our family and personal calendars.

5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?

Absolutely. We did find 3 mins during the day-of to practice one last time though 🙂

6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!

We felt so lucky to have been able to have such an awesome teacher. We felt so ready when the moment finally came. Our first dance went better than we either expected.

7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?

Like we were floating. It was the best rendition we had ever done!

8. What advice can you give to the couples?

Make the practice fun. Loosen up. Turn your lessons into date nights.

9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂

Absolutely! We’ve already used portions of our dance at other wedding we’ve gone to this year.
