Couple of the month: Eunbee and Tristan

In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!

Dance style: Mix Styles
Song: The Time of My Life
Amount of Lessons: 30

1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?

We wanted to do something special and memorable for our guests who were traveling all the way to Mexico to celebrate with us. We felt like we owed it to them to put on a little bit of a show. Eunbee has always loved the movie Dirty Dancing and Introduced it to Tristan while dating. We decided to go for it!!!

2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?

We didn’t feel like there were any requirements necessarily. We just wanted a performance that was recognizable as being from the movie. We wanted to be decent enough where we could be proud of the performance.

3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?

Zero dance experience prior
We had a little bit of a weird schedule because Tristan was away for a few months prior to the month of the wedding. We started in October with in person lessons. Then we took a break and did practices by ourselves and one online lesson. Finally we finished the final six hours of dance lessons a few weeks before the wedding.

4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?

Just learning the routine. We were told it was a long dance (3 min) and most wedding dances are usually about 1:30.

5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?

Yes! We were definitely nervous but comfortable enough to have fun and really enjoy it!

6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!

Expect to give your guests a truly memorable introduction as a married couple and something that the guests could not stop talking about the rest of the weekend. I’m so happy and proud that we did it!!

7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?

Relieved and happy! So so so happy. And ready to party – it was a great kick off to get the party started.

8. What advice can you give to the couples?

Trust the process. Practice on your own when you can, however you can – we watched the videos, quizzed each other on the steps, wrote down the steps from memory, practiced with the music slowed down and slowly sped it up to normal speed, etc.

9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂

Haha… we’ll see… maybe take a little break for now. But we’d be open to learning some more.
