15 Dec Couple of the month: Joann & Erik
In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!
Dance style: Rumba and Foxy
Song: Breathe – Faith Hill
Amount of Lessons: 17 H + ComfyDance Boost Evening
1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?
We heard this song while grocery shopping. I hadn’t heard it in years and forgot how beautiful it was. It was at that moment I decided we should try to have a choreographed first dance and that it had to be to this song. The lyrics are perfect and the song has great dynamics for choreography.
2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?
The most important requirement was that it looked like we had practiced something, but it was easy enough for us to learn in just a few weeks. Our whole wedding was planned in less than 3 months!
3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?
We eloped and then decided to plan an elopement party, so the whole thing was planned with just a few weeks notice. We started taking lessons about 8 weeks before our wedding. We took lessons 2-3 times a week. It sounds like a lot, but it worked out perfectly. Joann had previous dance experience as a teenager (ballet, tap), but the most dancing Erik had done was at other people’s weddings!
4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?
Erik tends to look down while dancing, so our teacher had to coach that out of him. “Erik – what’s on the floor?” Haha!
5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?
Yes we did! It went so well, we couldn’t believe it!
6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!
Some nerves at first, but then you realize that no one knows the dance except the both of you, so have fun with it!
7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?
Relieved! We were so happy we didn’t mess up. It was so fun!
8. What advice can you give to the couples?
We rented the studio for an hour on our own before the wedding so we could practice alone. It was a big help!
9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂
Yes, definitely!
