Couple of the month: Yash & Sharon

In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!

Dance style: Rumba
Song:  Moon River – Frank Ocean
Amount of Lessons: 10 H

1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?

We love R&B music, and we found Frank Ocean’s rendition of ‘Moon River’ to be perfect when choosing our song.

2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?

Our most important requirement was that we felt comfortable and confident doing the dance, especially in front of a crowd. We also wanted to choose a song that really encapsulated our relationship and the style of music that we both listen to.

3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?

We started about 2-3 months in advance. Neither of us had any real dance experience at all.

4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge was making it look natural since we were so worried about getting the steps right! However, over the course of our lessons we learned it wasn’t just about remembering the steps, but about really connecting with your partner and having fun. Alina really helped us in this regard and made the entire routine so smooth and organic!

5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?

We absolutely felt comfortable on the dance floor! It felt like just another practice (with a big audience!) and we got through the dance without any hiccups.

6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!

You’ll definitely feel some butterflies, but once you get into the dance routine those butterflies go away and it feels like it’s just you and your partner with no one else there. Remember, everyone is there to celebrate you so no need to feel nervous!

7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?

We felt relieved and ready to party! We got so many compliments on our dance and we both knew our practice really paid off.

8. What advice can you give to the couples?

Practice every day, make the lessons part of a date night, and trust yourselves! Have fun with it. The weeks and months leading up to your wedding are so special, and these lessons really make it unforgettable.

9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂

We definitely want to! It was a special experience for us and it made us closer as a couple because it reflected how we are as a “team” and how well we worked with each other.
