14 May Couple of the month: Eric and Bryton
In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!
Dance style: Rumba
Song: Blessed by Daniel Caesar
Amount of Lessons: 10 H
1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?
We picked a song that we listened to a lot together when we first started dating.
2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?
We wanted our dance to have a few feature moments — a dip, a lean, some spins — but we also didn’t want it to appear overly choreographed.
3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?
About 2 months before the wedding day! Bryton had done some tap dancing in college, and Eric was a novice.
4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?
Our song was pretty slow, so figuring out our tempo and deciding how much we wanted to adhere to the beat was a challenge. Practicing a lot at home helped us get into the groove.
5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?
Yes! It felt like we were alone.
6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!
It was surprising at times to have people cheering during the real thing! Very exciting but definitely made us giggle more than we’d anticipated.
7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?
Relieved and proud of ourselves!
8. What advice can you give to the couples?
Have fun with it and let your instructor help you figure out what moves work best for you two. Also practice at least once in something resembling your actual outfits – your ability to move may be very different than you expect!
9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂
We dance around the house all the time now and look forward to trying new styles!
