Couple of the month: Leona and Addison

In this article cycle, we will post interviews with some of our wedding couples to help you better understand the preparation process as well as what to expect from the dance on the big day. You can see the dance video at the end of the article!

Dance style: Hustle
Song:  Heaven Is A Place On Earth by Belinda Carlisle
Amount of Lessons: 26 H

1. How did you pick a song for your first dance?

At first, we were unsure as dancing was completely new to us. We thought the appropriate wedding dance would be a slow ballroom dance. After trying out a few dance styles, we knew we wanted something upbeat, energetic and showstopping. When we heard ‘Heaven Is A Place On Earth’ in our car, we knew it was the one.

2. What was the most important requirement for your wedding dance?

To have fun with each other, be playful and to put on a show like we were on Dancing With The Stars.

3. How many months in advance did you start? Did you have a dance experience before?

Did you have dance experience before? We started 8 months in advance and neither of us had dance experience.

4. What was the biggest challenge for you preparing the dance and how did you overcome it?

Being too critical and re-starting the dance after every little error. Overcome the challenge by letting the error happen, continue on the dance and revisit the error for improvement after.

5. Did you feel comfortable on the dance floor on the day of the wedding?

We were both equally comfortable and excited! Initially, Leona was nervous after she realized she left her dancing shoes at home. After dancing our way into the grand entrance, all the nerves were gone and we felt the electrifying energy. It was showtime!

6. Tell our future couples what to expect from the wedding dance on the day of!

Embrace the excitement. Your guests will be cheering you on and even if you make a mistake, only you and your partner will know – no one else will. Just keep going!

7. How did you feel after the performance on the day of?

Endorphins were running high, we couldn’t believe we just did that! It was a beautiful moment and we were proud of ourselves. Everything fell into place. We enjoyed every second of it. We would do it all over again.

8. What advice can you give to the couples?

It’s your time to shine and no matter what you do, it will be beautiful. Try not to get worked up on the little movements that you might think you are doing wrong. You’re not being scored and you’re not in a competition. You already won by dancing with the person you. I could do the 1-2 basic steps with my wife all day and still have the best time.

9. Are you going to dance after the wedding? 🙂

100%! We love dancing now and we are taking salsa classes together.
